GHAC Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access & Justice Statement (DEIAJ)

The Greater Hartford Arts Council is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community that builds equity in the arts ecosystem. We understand the historical and current inequitable distribution of support and resources to Black and Brown communities in Greater Hartford, starting with the displacement of Indigenous communities and continuing with the practice and impact of redlining on Black communities.

Art must be accessible to everyone. GHAC believes that committing to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Justice (DEIAJ) propels excellence, innovation, and transformation in our current and future community. Now is an opportunity for us to serve under-resourced communities impacted by compounded structural injustices.

As a grant-making organization and an equitable arts advocate, we are committed to directing resources to a more broad and accurate representation of our communities, with a specific focus on organizations that demonstrate their commitment to DEIAJ values. We seek to have a distinct impact by platforming and supporting different types of art and artists and lead in providing a blueprint for a new way of thinking and working in the arts community.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council has created an online training series to educate and activate DEIAJ for our funded arts organization.
